Selkie IT can help you control how you move data from one laptop or PC to another. Whether you need to migrate data from an old machine to a new one, or you are dealing with a computer that will no longer boot and you need to rescue critical data, Selkie IT can help.
Selkie IT turns an old or non-working computer into a File Server with full network support. It allows you to transfer data right over an existing network, or you can directly connect the two computers together. What gives Selkie IT such a huge advantage over other migration tools is that it doesn't rely on the Windows Operating System on the old/broken computer. It completely bypasses Windows, so you don't have to rely on the computer's Operating System to be operational at all.
A huge advantage is that Selkie IT requires no pre-installation of any kind. You just put the bootable CD into the CD-Rom drive of the old or broken computer and begin. Windows does not have to function in any way, shape or form in order for Selkie IT to work.
Additionally, Selkie works for both migration and rescuing files off of a non-working computer. So if Windows is running slow - or not running at all - there is nothing to worry about. Selkie IT bypasses Windows altogether. It runs off of a Live CD so Windows doesn't even have to operate.
Another advantage is that Selkie IT will work either through a direct connect (via a cross-over cable) or through a LAN. It is your choice. You just select the computer that you want the data placed on and go.
This leads to yet another advantage: you have complete control over what Selkie migrates or rescues. You can choose specific files or migrate/recover everything. This flexibility means that you can quickly access the most important files on a computer if the hard drive is dying. If time is not an issue, the only limit to the amount of data you can recover is the size of the drive in the new/working computer.
No. Selkie doesn't even install onto the broken or old computer at all, so it leaves no trace behind. Selkie IT is a "Live CD," so it operates from the CD rather than installing itself onto the hard drive of the old or broken computer.
The short answer? It will save you time and money!
If you work in an IT department, you know that computer upgrades are part of life at any company. The "Blue Screen of Death" is also inevitable. When either happens, you have to get the data from the old or broken computer and place it on the new or working computer. Selkie IT is a tool that deals with both situations with equal ease.
If the computer is broken, why go through the time-consuming process of removing the hard drive to get data off, when you can just use your company's network to do the work for you? It will make your job easier and let you do a difficult task with ease, keeping your company's data flowing.
If you are an independent IT consultant then you know that time is money. With Selkie IT Edition as part of your toolkit you will be able to migrate and rescue data with ease, allowing you to do more and have more billable hours to work with.
Selkie IT Edition is a vital part of any technicians' toolkit.
First, there is the Site License. This is intended for IT Departments. It licenses the product based on the size of your office or company. Just like any other software product, each copy of Selkie Rescue IT Edition is licensed to a particular computer. If you are buying for an IT Department, this license is right for you.
If, however, you are an independent IT Consultant or Technician, than the Independent Technician license is right for you. This license is a per-tech license as opposed to a per-computer license. We understand that you don't work on the same set of computers every day like an IT Department technician does, so we have created flexible licensing that will suit your needs.
As long as your subscription is active you will receive unlimited updates to the product as soon as they are released. Additionally, we have a password protected tech-only forum for IT professionals where you can talk directly with our development team and other IT professionals about Selkie and other topics.
Plus, as new products enter Beta testing, you will have full access to the Beta versions of the products before they are released to the public. Best of all, you get free 24/7 LIVE phone support. Any day, any time we have people who are there for you when *you* need it! If your company's computers go down at 3:00am we will be there, ready to take your call!
No, Selkie is not a forensic recovery program. Selkie's focus is dealing with the much more common problem of the Blue Screen of Death and helping you get around that to grab intact data. If the computer is truly dead - it will no longer power up or the hard drive is physically damaged - Selkie IT will not be able to help you.
Simple. On the working computer you will just use Windows Explorer to move the files from one computer to the other. No need to learn anything new - no new interface to mess around with. We have worked hard to keep Selkie as easy as possible. With the old or broken computer, in 99% of all cases it is as simple as clicking "enter" 3 times, as it builds the network connection between the computers. You can see samples of the interface here: www.selkieit.com
Yes, Selkie IT can work right over your companies' wired network just as easily as it can work by directly connecting the computers via a cross-over cable.
Two computers and either a wired network or a cross-over cable is first on the list. Then, you will also need access to a working CD burner so that you can create the Selkie IT disk that will go in the broken computer, or you can contact us about acquiring copies of the software already burned onto CDs for your use. That's it!
No. Norton Ghost is limited and only lets you create images of workstation systems to make restoration easier. To create initial images, you need to have Ghost running within a working Microsoft Windows operating system - you cannot create a backup image if Windows has failed. Selkie IT is designed to run even on systems where Windows has become corrupted because it does not depend on Windows in any way.
Selkie may allow you to copy virus-infected files to the working computer. For this reason you should make sure you have up-to-date virus protection on your working computer before you start the rescue operation. Selkie is immune to viruses for two reasons, it runs in the Linux Operating System and the CD can't be written to.
Selkie works with Windows 98/ME/2K/XP/Vista - it will move files from any one of these Operating Systems to another. Because Selkie IT operates on a Live CD it doesn't even require that the copy of Windows works at all.
Selkie moves only the files and folders you want moved over. You can move them all over or just a few. It is just as simple to move one file as it is to move all of them over.
